A sailor walks into a bar/restaurant, get seated at a table. He orders shellfish. When it arrives he takes a bite. He then walks outiside and shoots himself. Why?

coz the shell-fish had some disease or poison in it which spreads, so he thought the best way to die was quikly without the poison/disease having affect on other people?

I've heard this before...it goes something like this:
This guy was stranded on a cruise ship and food was running low. One day the cook served up shellfish but the guy noticed his best friend had gone missing. As soon as he went ashore he tried to squash his fears by eating shellfish again but the shellfish he ate in the restaurant didn't taste the same as the shellfish he ate on the boat. He couldn't live with the knowledge that he'd eaten his best friend and killed himself
